Abbot Club: A social group for men from the church
We Meet at the Nags Head Pub at 8.00pm (1st Thursday in the month)

The Abbot Club started in May 2002 and its aim was to provide an activity where men who attended St. Mary’s Church could meet up regularly in a relaxed social atmosphere. From the start the Abbot Club has met on a monthly basis and currently meets on the first Thursday of every month (not always in January depending on New Year holiday dates and not if the dates clash with Easter). It is not restricted to men who attend the church and we are always pleased to welcome new men who would like to join with us.

The club is very informal and there are no subscriptions or membership fees to pay. We do not have any committee or leaders but we do have a contact name who is the Coordinator for the club meetings.

The main purpose of the Abbot Club is to provide an opportunity for a monthly get together for men and we normally meet in the lounge of the Nags Head, but we do occasionally have other activities and trips.

*In past years during September, around the time of Harvest Sunday, we have walked from East Leake to the Star Inn at West Leake for Sunday lunch. This activity was last held in 2006 and since then,rather than a walk, we decided to have a canal boat trip on the Grand Union canal instead in early September and finished the day with a meal at the Heat Indian Restaurant in East Leake.

*We have also had several other river trips in the past including Christmas lunch specials on the River Trent.

*We have also in the past arranged trips to a brewery and to a vineyard in the Leicestershire area and we plan to repeat these trips sometime in the future.

*We try to encourage meetings with other Churches men’s groups as well and we have held several meetings with the group from Lambley in the past few years and, this year, we hope to meet with them again for our Christmas meeting in December.

We do make sure that we keep the Abbot Club as informal as possible and we are always pleased to welcome new members –please do come along as often as you can –you will be very welcome.
