EAST LEAKE PLAYING FIELDS CHARITY

Registered Charity no. 522209

East Leake Playing Field Charity (ELPFC) is responsible for managing the Costock Road Playing Fields which is the main facility in the village for soccer, rugby and cricket. Clubs who use the facilities for competitive matches and for training sessions are:

Junior Soccer - East Leake Bantams FC
Senior Soccer = East Leake Athletic FC and Rempstone FC
Senior & Junior Rugby - East Leake Rugby Club
Senior Cricket - East Leake Cricket Club

The hall in the sports pavilion is available for hire for other sport or community activities. Currently, the hall is used weekly by the U3A table tennis group and by the Chatfield Dog Training Club.

In April 1996, responsibility for management of the Costock Road Sports Ground was transferred from the Parish Council to the East Leake Playing Field Charity (ELPFC), which is registered as a Charity with the Charity Commission.
The Management Committee of ELPFC is composed of representatives of the user organisations, the Parish Council, plus three elected members to represent interests of the residents of East Leake.
The committee is always looking to co-opt members of the community who wish to contribute to the development of the facilities.

A long-term programme to develop the Costock Road facilities began in 1991 when East Leake Parish Council purchased an additional eleven acres of land adjacent to the original five acres of Costock Road Recreation Ground and provided funds for converting this area to sports pitches. This land is leased to the Playing Field Charity, which owns the original five acres of land. The expanded facilities now provide four soccer pitches (plus two reduced size U-9 pitches) and two rugby pitches during the winter months as well as a cricket pitch through the summer. A floodlit training area is available for winter training. After almost three years of planning, funding was obtained to permit construction of the Phase 1 pavilion, which was opened in June 1995. This provides shower and changing facilities for users of the sports pitches.

Since 1996, the facilities at Costock Road have been steadily improved to provide:

  • an enlarged car park
  • a new garage for storage of maintenance equipment by the Cricket Club
  • an upgrading of the shower system in the changing block to improve capacity and efficiency
  • the installation of changing bays on the first floor of the changing block to improve the facilities
  • redecoration of the changing block
  • a new roof on the pavilion
  • installation of drainage systems on the two soccer pitches created following the purchase of the additional land
  • laying of the hedges around the boundary of the playing fields
  • the construction of a footbridge across the ditch between the two fields
  • a new entrance gate.

The medium term objective of ELPFC is to completely refurbish the changing, shower, toilet and recreational facilities of the single storey pavilion.
