The Staff
The Pre-School works on a ratio of 1 member of staff to 6 children as directed by Social Services.
The majority of staff have a nationally recognised child care qualification and have undertaken a first aid course.
Our membership of the Pre-School Learning Alliance (PLA) ensures that we are constantly in touch with new thinking in the field of child education and care. We receive monthly information offering practical and up-to-date advice and we have ready access to the PLA's range of publications. Ongoing training is provided by the PLA (for staff, volunteers and parents!).
The Committee
The Pre-School is a registered charity and is managed by a Committee of parents in close liaison with the staff.
Every parent is entitled to be on the Committee and an AGM is held each year for all parents to elect the Committee.
Having this Committee ensures major decision making is in the hands of the parents who use the group.
The Committee is responsible for reviewing both policy and practice and for the employment and appraisal of members of staff.
The Parents
Research shows that children learn better when their parents are involved. Our rota system allows all parents to be involved in helping in the group on a regular basis. This helps to maintain the high ratio of adults to children, guaranteeing care and attention for all the children. It also gives parents the opportunity to take an active part in the group, to see what happens there and to talk about it afterwards with their child. In addition, the rota system provides a valuable opportunity for all children to see their own parents/carers in a new role.
The PLA recognises parents as the first and most important educators of their young children. Our Pre-School aims to support parents and they are welcomed to work in the group with the children.
