I am ashamed at how pathetic people on here are. A skatepark would do nothing but good to the village.

Hi Boscoe,

Your post made me laugh.

I would however like to know how can you be so sure that it was a large dog that did its business on your driveway when it could equally well have been a skateboarder - you know what they're like.

Good luck to the guys trying to get a skate park built. The only reason skaters have a bad reputation is because they are forced to skate on the streets because there are no proper facilities in the village. I was one of the original skaters who raised the money to build a half pipe at Costock Rd playing fields back in the late 80's, which was unfortunately located right in line with the cricket wicket. Getting a proper thought out park will be a great asset for the the village.

I don't live in East Leake either, but I know Richard Snow the electrician.

I'll be sure to let him know that there's an anonymous message about him on the Internet.

Re gift

Why not auction it then let someone who wants it have it, then give the money to the old folks in the village for a good old xmas party.Discuss.

Dear Village Hall Committee Member
thank you for your reply.

Now that you know that this picture is a Gift and that there was obviously a breakdown in communication, does this mean that you might still accept?

Mr. Annoyed

Why do people like you always hide behind false names.
The young people I have met travelling the area looking at skateparks are anythink but yobs and there is no evidence from any part of the country that skaters are in any way involved with drugs.
They have every right to persue the sport of their choice, just the same as the kids who play football, rugby or cricket, but the Parish Council spends £'000s every year subsidising the latter.
I invite you to come and meet them at 6.30pm in the Parish Office on 14th Dec. and talk to them face to face rather than posting ill informed garbage on this forum.

Unwanted Gift.

The Village Hall Management Committee considered a request for a place to hang a picture which was 5ftx4ft. We were not advised that it was to be a "gift".
Whilst some of the users did express unrest about its content, our main concern was one of security. If it was not ours it would have been difficult to insure, and people steal electric kettles, tea pots, toilet rolls and virtually anything else that is moveable.
We did not, therefore, think that the village hall was the best custodian.

There seems to be a degree of over-caution and "political correctness" in this double rejection. The offer of creative work by local residents should be welcomed. Has the Library been approached, or Harry Carlton School, or even St Mary's? Joseph Wright might have been fairly controversial and avant-garde in his day, but surely not now?

Artists Picture
The erection of the picture was discussed with the Clerk and a member of the artists group. Varioius places within the Parish Office were considered but there was no suitable place and there would be less opportunity for the public to gain access to see it. It was thought that the Village Hall may be a better venue and the suggestion was passed on to the Village Hall Management Committee for their consideration.

Unwanted Gift

On Carnival day 2011 East Leake Coloured Pencil Artists
unveiled a composite picture, approx. 5ft x 4ft, based on"Experiment with an air pump" by Joseph Wright of Derby. This picture helped to raise over £280 for charity.
In September it was hung at Central Hall, Westminster at the invitation of the UK Coloured Pencil Society. As most of the artists live in the village it was decided to give the picture to the Village Hall/Parish Council.
After long deliberation it was decided not to accept this gift, some of the reasons being:-
What about insurance.
It might be too big.
Religious connotations that might upset local Sunday users of the hall.
Last years picture was gratefully accepted and can be seen in the village Methodist Church.

Am I missing something here?
Comments please.

Mr Annoyed
I am in secondary school an personally know pretty much all of the village skaters and non of them take drugs! What kind of person are you to point fingers at people! You totally disgust me! Skateboarding is a sport just like football... You have no problem with football being played in the village yet you target the skateboarders! Most of the skateboarders are under 14 and do not cause trouble in the village! The trouble makers are the "chavs" who I personally have previoisly been beten up by just for walking past! Next time you see skate boarders in the village look around for the people in hooded track suits who think they run the village. They are the real problem! Your finger pointing is VERY CHILDISH!
