Children's Events

** SUMMER READING CHALLENGE**

With the Roald Dahl theme of The Big Friendly Read

We challenge all children of ages 5 - 11yrs old to borrow and read 6 books over the summer holidays.
In return you will receive cards (some smelly) with illustrations by Quentin Blake and a door hanger. When you have read 6 books there will be a pair of rainbow glasses, a medal and a certificate for you.
Feel free to choose any books: it could be a graphic book,a paperback fiction, a joke book, a Horrible Science or History, a book about dinosaurs or looking after your pet. Or learn a new activity at the same time - cooking, drawing, playing football.

Come and sign up for the challenge in the library from July 16th 2016.
We are looking forward to helping you to succeed in reading the 6 books.

The Big Poem
Starting from Monday 15 August

Calling all poets and those who don't yet know they are poets.

Help East Leake Library write a Big Poem. Add a line or two to the poem and watch it grow.

Starting on Monday 15 August, the Big Poem will continue to be added to throughout the rest of the summer holiday.

Read what others have written and then add your own line to the poem.

Free event - just drop in whenever the library is open. And write as many lines as you like.

Design a Shed
Wednesday 24 August

Join us for a Big Friendly Read activity- Design a Shed.

After looking at Heath Robinson style inventions and listening to stories, decide what sort of shed you want and what will happen inside it.

Then make and decorate it. Let your imagination go.

Story Hullabaloo and Rattle Rhyme and Roll

FREE FUN FOR Under 5s!
Meet other parents and make new friends!

STORYHULLABALOO 2.30 - 3.00 pm on the 2nd Monday of the month
Listen to stories and join in with songs and rhymes.

RATTLE RHYME AND ROLL 2.30 - 3.00 pm on the
4th Monday of the month.
Have fun with your little ones. Enjoy songs and rhymes together.

Introduction to IT

The library offers a free, one hour basic introduction to using a mouse, a keyboard and basic word processing skills.
As a follow up there is a one hour session on how to use the internet and a one hour session on emailing.

Do you enjoy words? Fancy a social game of Scrabble?

Come along to the Scrabble group meeting at East Leake Library on the last Thursday of the month at 2pm.

It's fun and free for all children between 0 - 4 years old....
Collect your bear stamp each time you visit then you'll receive a certificate after 6 stamps.
