From Jenny de Villiers, Chair of East Leake Neighbourhood Watch.

COMMUNITY SAFETY
Community Safety comes in many shapes and forms – East Leake Neighbourhood Watch co-ordinators meet periodically to assess what is going on in the village and look at any issues that affect our daily lives such as speeding, parking and residents’ and shopkeepers’ general wellbeing.

As you will remember, we ran a campaign in 2007/8, to support the Parish Council in requesting a pedestrian crossing outside the Post Office, across Main Street. This met with a good public response, but made very little progress with Nottinghamshire County Council. There are six possible avenues of traffic at that point of Main Street, and the elderly, infirm and very young have difficulty getting across the road because of the volume of traffic.

So -we need to keep on beating the drum, and there are two ways YOU can help.

EITHER print off the slip below, and when you have completed it drop it into the Police Station on Main Street.
OR e-mail ELCID (Click on "Contact Us" in the menu on the left), and they will pass on the message. You could cut and paste the form below, or just express your support in your own words – in that case, please include the name of your street so that we know which part of the village you are from.

When we have collected all your responses, we can get together with the Parish Council again, and work in partnership for “community safety".

Thank you for taking the time to join our campaign - your contribution may help to save a life one day, and will be appreciated by everyone who struggles at present to cross the main street.
