WELCOME TO EAST LEAKE NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH

MEET THE LOCAL BEAT TEAM - SEE LINK AT END OF THIS WEB PAGE
Neighbourhood Watch works with the Police in the prevention and detection of crime. We encourage a two way flow of information regarding potential or actual crimes. As members of Neighbourhood Watch groups we look out for each other's interests whilst away from home and we look for and report suspicious incidents.
Please come along to our meetings at the Parish Office, Main Street, East Leake at 7.30 pm. NEXT MEETING ON Monday 26th March 2012. Contact us through Jenny de Villiers on 01509 852771.
Remember to report anything suspicious no matter how small it may seem, every little bit of information helps.
It is a group of individuals who, by their concern for each other and the area in which they live, voluntarily act in conjunction with the Police in the prevention and detection of crime.
The Chief Co-ordinator for East Leake is Jenny DeVilliers and she can be contacted on 01509 852771
The parts of East Leake that are covered by Neighbourhood Watch each have an Area Co-ordinator, who covers one or more streets, usually involving 10 to 20 houses or other premises.
IS WHERE I LIVE COVERED BY NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH?
Ask our Chief Co-ordinator, Jenny de Villiers, telephone number 01509 852771. If you are not covered maybe you would like to become the Co-ordinator for you local area. The number of houses or other premises covered is usually 10 to 20. It's a useful role and not very demanding. One day you might come to regret that you did nothing about it!
WHAT IS NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH?
It is a group of individuals who, by their concern for each other and for the area where they live, voluntarily act in conjunction with the Police in the prevention and detection of crime.
In an effective scheme there is a two way flow of information, with respect to potential or actual crimes, between Police and members of schemes.
Come along to our next meeting on Thursday 19 January 2006 at the Parish Office, Main Street, East Leake at 7.30 pm. Look forward to seeing you.
HOW DO WE OPERATE?
Members of a group look out for each other while they are away from home. They look for and report suspicious incidents. They may receive information passed from the Co-ordinator about particular risks at any one time and about information that the Police are seeking.

SAT NAV THEFTS
Satellite navigation systems are an attractive target for thieves. Thefts of such items in Nottinghamshire have risen from 10 to 250 per month over the last 11 months. Take it with you when leaving the car. Theives know your hiding places within the car! Police advises owners to record their equipment serial number. This can be registered FREE on www.immobilise.com.
BOGUS OFFICIALS
In November there have been 9 incidents of “bogus water board officials”, in Loughborough,Castle Donington, Shepshed, Thurmaston, Birstall and Newton Linford.
If you know any elderly or vulnerable people PLEASE make them aware of the above and stress that employees of Severn Trent will have suitable ID on them and will not be offended if you check that ID out by ringing Severn Trent. Remind them to chain their doors before opening them and NOT to let anyone in unless they are sure of the identity – if in doubt keep them out.
THEFTS OF CARS
In these very cold mornings people have the tendency to start their cars and leave them running whilst they de-ice the windows. On occasions they are being left outside unattended and running. There have been a couple of incidents where such cars have been stolen. Please be aware this practice is leaving you vulnerable and may jeopardise your insurance if you have left the car unattended, with the keys in the ignition.
THEFT FROM SCHOOLS
A group of offenders are targeting Junior and Primary schools all over the
Midlands. They are particularly active between 3.30pm and 5pm and occasionally during early morning assemblies - using this time when the classrooms are open and unattended. They will, also, commit offences at night by forcing entry to the schools.
It is believed they may be using parents collecting children as a cover to gain entry to the schools. They are using stolen cars that will be parked nearby and they are stealing laptops, projectors etc but have also taken and used credit cards from unattended handbags.
We are asking that if you have occasion to attend any schools in the area that you assist us and the school by being extra vigilant. If you see someone that doesn't look as if they should be there then inform a member of staff. If you see a car that looks out of place make a note of the number and inform the school or the local police.
ARREST MADE
Early in June 2005 a resident (now a Neighbourhood Watch co-ordinator) of Normanton on Soar witnessed a burglary in progress. The brave lady went over to the premises and as she arrived the two burglars drove off in a car. She made a note of the number, after making sure she got a good look at the offenders. She contacted the police with a description and the registered number of the car and at a later date attended an identification viewing.
The two offenders were arrested in the car and after a lengthy investigation. They were charged with a number of offences, including the above. The two offenders are in custody and now hopefully await a lengthy sentence.
Without the eyes and ears of the general public the police would find things even more difficult than they do at present and our thanks go to this lady and all the residents who assist with information.
