Village Carnival 2006

This is what living in a village is all about!

Well what can I say .... I'm speechless!

What a fantastic day! What an atmosphere! I thought last year's was good but this year's was brilliant!

Thank you, thank you, thank you ... where do I start?

To all those who took part in the parade, the effort you put in was outstanding and what a spectacular sight it all was, you should be extremely proud of yourselves! Special thanks to AHT, GCS European, Terry Edwards, and Hardstaffs for the loan of their drivers, vehicles and trailers who made it all possible.

Huge thanks to the marshals who kept the paraders safe and in order, it was a big job this year, but I've had no report of any mishaps at all, so well done guys and gals!

Thank you to all who turned out to watch the parade, I'm sure it was well worth it, it was great to see so many people out in the streets to add to the atmosphere and it makes all the effort that is put into the floats so worthwhile.

Thanks are also extended to all who supported the Carnival, whether it be by advertising, stallholders, donations or simply by purchasing a programme. As with last year, proceeds to go to a village project that hopefully many of us will benefit from. We have £1,000 to spend so please send any suggestions to mel.roper@ntlworld.com, we’d like to hear from you!

Last year we were able to donate £500 towards the Christmas lights in the village centre. As an addition this year, thanks to Townlands Trust, Nottingham East Midlands Airport, Notts County Council and Co-operative Group, who supplied funding through their community grant awards, we were able to purchase the sound system used on the stage at the Carnival, this is now a village amenity and is available for hire from the Parish Office.

Thank you to all the stage performers, what a fantastic job they did keeping us all entertained. It was nice to see there are so many talented children in East Leake and the surrounding area.

Special thanks to the Carnival Committee, a sterling job was done by all, you deserve a big pat on the back, well done!

Oh, mustn't forget the weatherman who was extremely kind to us this year, weather couldn't have been better, and finally thanks to Sven for making sure England weren't playing at 4pm Saturday! Phew!!

Planning for next year is already taking place, further details can be found on the East Leake website, www.east-leake.co.uk, the Carnival page can be found under ‘organisations’. Carnival photographs can also be found there too, thanks to Steve Fordyce for being our photographer for the day!

Fundraising is ongoing but we do need sponsors and more donations to run the event and make improvements so please be generous, without you the carnival cannot go on.

We are looking for local businesses to sponsor some more awards for the parade floats, as so much effort is put into the floats and costumes we feel it would be good to be able to give out more awards, so if you are interested in purchasing a shield and being an award sponsor, please get in touch.
